Abil al-Qamh was about half Shia and half Greek Christian, while the other six were mostly Shia. وكانت آبل القمح تقريبا نصفها من الشيعة والنصف الآخر مسيحيين روم، في حين كانت القرى الست الأخرى معظمها من الشيعة.
Abil al-Qamh was a part of the French Mandate of Lebanon until 1923 when it was incorporated into the British Mandate in Palestine. كانت آبل القمح جزءا من الانتداب الفرنسي على لبنان حتى عام 1923 عندما أُدرجت في الانتداب البريطاني على فلسطين.

The inhabitants of Abil al-Qamh fled to the neighbouring Lebanese Christian villages, specially the village of Deirmimas where most of them later acquired Lebanese passports; still living in Deirmimas are for instance the families of Abdo, Keserwany, Harfouch, and Haddad. فرّ سكان آبل القمح إلى القرى المسيحية اللبنانية المجاورة، ولا سيما قرية دير ميماس حيث حصل معظمهم لاحقا على جوازات سفر لبنانية؛ ولا تزال تعيش في ديرميماس على سبيل المثال أسر عبدو، وكسرواني، وحرفوش، وحداد.
There was no fighting in the village, but after the fall of Safad to Israel and from a "whispering campaign" by local Jewish leaders to the heads of Arab villages (makhatir) warning them of massive Jewish reinforcements arriving in the Galilee, the residents of Abil al-Qamh fled. ولم يكن هناك قتال في القرية، ولكن بعد سقوط صفد في يد إسرائيل ومن "حملة همس" قام بها زعماء يهود محليون إلى رؤساء القرى العربية (مخاتير) لتحذيرهم من التعزيزات اليهودية الضخمة التي وصلت إلى الجليل، فر سكان آبل القمح.
